Welcome to Yarnbury Class
We understand that during this interesting time we may have members of the class doing learning from home and will support everyone in and out of the classroom to be the best that they can be. The school plans to email learning packs to anyone who finds themselves self isolating. Also remember you have access to Bug Club, the Phonics Play website (free) and Numbots. We love Cosmic Yoga and The Zen Den from YouTube to help if we want some calm time.
In our English lessons this term, we will focus on the story Traction Man. We will learn our story off-by-heart and then make changes to create and write our own versions to share with you. We will be having a focus on conjunctions (and, but, because, when , that, if). Handwriting will also be a major focus as this has even greater importance in Year 2.
As mathematicians this term, we will continue to recap our previous skills as well as introduce working with fractions and telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes. Time telling is something you can really support at home and we recommend that year 2 children have their own watch to help them learn this vital skill.
In our PE lessons we will be learning a routine in dance and fitness skills . As scientists, we will be growing and carrying out investigations to find out about plants. As part of our History learning, we will be looking at the question What Was Life Like For Your Grandparents? We are looking forward to using the iPads and laptops during our computing time, to create a variety of art. Our RE this term will be all about Chritianity and we have been using the Bible story of Jonah And The Whale to explore What Do Christians Believe God Is Like? . Our children are becoming more confident with understanding and living by our school values of Kindness, Endurance and Dignity and we are very proud of them.
Our PE lessons are on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please make sure your child always has a full PE kit in school, including appropriate footwear.
We frequently deal with issues regarding lost jumpers, cardigans, coats etc. Please ensure your child’s name is on everything as this means items will quickly find their way back to the right person!
Children can keep their water bottles in the classroom, as we understand that staying hydrated is an important part of keeping healthy. Please make sure these are named. Our school provides fruit for morning break time.
If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with us via your child’s home-school contact book or leave a message with the office staff.
